American Airlines recently noticed a data breach where the attackers compromised a limited number of employee email accounts.
According to NPR, American Airlines discovered a data breach in July 2022 and secured the impacted email accounts.
The company stated that the personal information of a “very small number” of customers and employees was accessed by an unauthorized party that compromised business email accounts.
Personal information in the accessed email accounts may include customers' and employees' names, mailing addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and certain other information.
In the notification letters sent, the company explained that exposed data was not misused.
Upon finding the incident, they secured email accounts and committed a third-party cyber security forensic firm to investigate the nature and scope of the incident.
The company hasn't disclosed the number of impacted employees and customers. The airline offered affected customers complimentary two-year membership of Experians' identity works to protect the identity of users.
Most important is to give precautionary support to customers. So American Airlines declared, implementing additional technical safeguards to prevent a similar attack in the future.
