Consultant firm Booz Allen Hamilton is in the news again, as one of their contractor staff at NSA was involved in the leakage of classified data. The first instance was when Edward Snowden leaked the data which put the US on the back foot for a while on a lot of sensitive subjects. The Booz Allen employee is arrested now on the charges of stealing sensitive data. Harold Thomas Martin allegedly downloaded secret documents over the last two decades. He found to have stolen at least 50 terabytes of classified information. FBI raided Martin’s home, and was able to seize “specific operational plans against a known enemy of the US and its allies.” Considering the amount of data stolen and the period Martin was in operation, US federal agencies and FBI is investigating whether Martin was involved in the leakage of NSA’s hacking tools for use against Russia and China. As of now, Booz Allen hired former FBI Chief Robert Muller to investigate and review the security practices of Booz to get an external view of the same. Let us wait and see what could be the outcome, and how this latest incident impacts Booz Allen’s reputation and business relationships with top organizations in the world.
