Microsoft Windows users worldwide are experiencing Blue Screen of Death errors. Many have reported the issue on the microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter).

Reports indicate that Windows users are encountering blue screen errors, causing their laptops and PCs to get stuck in a restart loop.

CrowdStrike acknowledged reports of crashes on Windows hosts linked to the Falcon Sensor, stating in an alert at 9:30 a.m. GST on Friday that they are aware of the issue. The Falcon Sensor is a software designed by the cybersecurity company to protect computer systems from cyberattacks.

CrowdStrike Engineering has identified a content deployment related to the issue and has reverted those changes.

If hosts are still crashing and unable to stay online to receive the Channel File Changes, the following steps can be used to workaround the issue:

  1. Boot Windows into Safe Mode or the Windows Recovery Environment
  2. Navigate to the C:WindowsSystem32driversCrowdStrike directory
  3. Locate the file matching “C-00000291*.sys” and delete it.

Recommendations:

  1. Immediate Action: If you haven't updated CrowdStrike yet, delay applying the recent update until further notice.
  2. Mitigation for Affected Systems: For systems already impacted, consider rolling back the update where possible and wait for an official fix or guidance from CrowdStrike.
  3. Stay Informed: Monitor communications from CrowdStrike for updates on the issue and resolution steps.
  4. Backup Important Data: Regularly back up all important data to prevent loss during system instability.
