Vodafone Portugal was hit by a ransomware attack that resulted in the disruption of its 4G/5G services across the country.
Vodafone suffered a network disruption on 7,2022 due to a deliberate and malicious cyberattack intended to cause damage and disruption.
The disruption affected services based on data networks, namely the 4G/5G network, fixed voice, SMS services, television and voice/digital answering services.
The attack affected millions of individuals, businesses and public services, including ambulance services, fire departments and hospitals, said Vodafone Portugal CEO, Mário Vaz.
Vodafone called the incident “a deliberate and malicious attack intended to cause damage,” the company has no proof that customer data has been accessed as a result of the attack.
“As it is certain that the in-depth investigation of the criminal act to which we were subjected will continue indefinitely and with the involvement of the competent authorities, we have no evidence to date that Customer data has been accessed and/or compromised,” reads the announcement.
Vodafone did not reveal the details of the attack, but the outages and the unavailability of its systems suggest that the company was hit by a ransomware attack.
