AzeroCloud and CloudNordic, two Danish hosting companies, have been attacked by ransomware, resulting in losing most customer data.
AzeroCloud and CloudNordic, two Danish hosting companies, have been attacked by ransomware, resulting in losing most customer data. The attack has forced the hosting providers to shut off all systems, including websites, email, and customer websites.
Despite the fact that the two brands are owned by the same company and stated that the attack occurred on Friday night. The operation's status remains highly problematic, with the firm's IT team only able to restore some servers without any data.
In addition, the firm clarifies that it won't pay the threat actors a ransom and has already contacted security experts and reported the incident to the police.
The system and data restoration process isn't going smoothly, and CloudNordic says many of its customers have lost unrecoverable data.
According to CloudNordic's statement, the company is unwilling to pay a ransom to the criminal hackers. The company's IT department and outside experts assess the damage and determine what can be recovered. Unfortunately, there has been no way to retrieve more data, and most customers have lost all their data.
Both public notices include instructions for recovering websites and services from local backups or Wayback Machine archives.
Due to the current situation, the two hosting service providers previously recommended that heavily impacted customers move to other providers, such as Powernet and Nordicway.
The hosting company has revealed that some of its servers have been infected with ransomware despite being protected by firewalls and antivirus.
The attackers could access all backup systems, critical administrative systems, and all data storage silos during a data centre migration. Afterwards, the attackers encrypted all server disks, including primary and secondary backups, corrupting everything without allowing recovery.
As per CloudNordic, the attack was limited to encrypting data, and the evidence gathered does not indicate that any data on the machines was accessed or exfiltrated. Consequently, no data breach was discovered.
Martin Haslund Johansson, the director of Azerocloud and CloudNordic, stated that customers will not be left behind after recovery.
