Dole was forced to temporarily shut down its production plants and halt food shipments to grocery stores after being targeted in a cyberattack.
A memo obtained by the broadcaster, written by Emanuel Lazopoulos, Dole’s senior vice president , told retailers that Dole was “in the midst of a Cyber Attack and [we] have subsequently shut down our systems throughout North America.”
“Our plants are shut down for the day, and all shipments are on hold,” the company notified its partners.
In a statement, the company said they had been engaged with third-party cybersecurity experts, who have been working with Dole’s internal teams to remediate the problem and secure systems.
How long the company had to keep its production offline is unclear. According to CNN, the incident had affected shipments to grocery stores. It talked to stores in New Mexico and Texas who said they could not stock Dole salad kits due to the attack.
