A hacker known as ShopifyGUY has taken credit for breaching the Canadian retail chain Giant Tiger and disclosing 2.8 million records on a hacker forum.
Giant Tiger, a prominent discount store chain with over 260 outlets nationwide, was allegedly targeted by the threat actor in March 2024, who purportedly uploaded the entire pilfered database.
HaveIBeenPwned, a data breach monitoring service, has incorporated the leaked database into its website, facilitating users in verifying if their information has been compromised.
The individual responsible for the post asserts that they have uploaded the complete database of Giant Tiger customer records, which were stolen in March 2024.
"On March 4, 2024, Giant Tiger became aware of security concern related to a third-party vendor we use to manage customer communications and engagement," the company spokesperson told BleepingComputer.
"We determined that contact information belonging to certain Giant Tiger customers was obtained without authorization. We sent notices to all relevant customers informing them of the situation."
"No payment information or passwords were involved."
