The hackers have stolen more than 8200 databases from the US cybersecurity firm, Night Lion Security’s DataVipe

  • Hackers have breached the backend servers of a US cybersecurity firm and stole the information from the company’s “data leak detection” service.
  • The data includes more than 8,200 databases.
  • The hacker himself disclosed the data breach to several cybersecurity reporters.

The hackers have stolen more than 8200 databases from the US cybersecurity firm, Night Lion Security’s  DataViper. The hacker is using the nickname “NightLion, ” which is the name of the hacked company.

Popular researcher Vinny Troia, who runs the Night Lion security manages the DataViper, a data leak monitoring service. The Security company scans the dark web, hacking forums, paste sites and other cybercrime marketplaces for information from other companies that had their data stolen during the past security breaches.

Vinny Troia told that the hacker got access to one of the DataViper servers used for testing purposes and also started to sell DataViper’s users in the Dark web marketplace.

Troia added that he believes the hacker is selling their databases rather than any evidence they stole from the company server.

The darker website contains evidence of the hacker’s access to the server as well as 482 downloadable JSON sample files taken from the breached servers. The hacker also published an additional proof of the intrusion to Data-Viper’s backend.

The hacker himself disclosed the breach in an email addressed to tens of cybersecurity reporters. The email contained a link to a dark web portal that included details of the hack into Night Lion Security’s servers, and he also claims to have spent three months inside DataViper servers while exfiltrating the database.

“When people think they are nice, the law gets sloppy. So much so they forget to look at their own historical mistakes. I literally detailed an entire scenario in my book, where I allowed them to gain access to my web server in order to get their IPs. They haven’t learned. All they had access to was a dev environment,” said Troia “Much like the grey Microsoft hack which they recently took credit for, all they had was some source code that turned out to be nothing special, but they hyped it anyway hoping to get people’s attention. These are the actions of scared little boys pushed up against a wall facing the loss of their freedom.”
