A cybercriminal has leaked online the database of the largest free web hosting provider for dark web services, Daniel Hosting.
The hacker by the name KingNull breached Daniel’s Hosting (DH) earlier this year, on March 10, 2020, stole the database and deleted all the databases of the websites. Almost 7,600 dark web portals were taken down following the security breach.
The hacker uploaded a copy of DH’s stolen database on a file-hosting portal and notified ZDNet.
The leaked data includes 3,671 email addresses, 7,205 account passwords and 8,580 private keys for .onion (dark web) domains.
On March 26, DH shut down its service for good, urging users to move their sites to new dark web hosting providers.
“The leaked database contains sensitive information on the owners and users of several thousand Darknet domains,” said threat intelligence firm under the breach.
The data dump can be used to connect the owners of leaked email addresses to certain dark web portals.
“This information could substantially help law enforcement track the individuals running or taking part in illegal activities on these Darknet sites,” under the breach told ZDNet.
If the site owners moved their dark web portals to new hosting providers but with the old passwords, hackers could still take over their new accounts — if they crack the leaked DH hashed passwords.
DH was breached for the second time. In November 2018,DH suffered a security breach where the hackers have deleted the root account and has resulted in the loss of 6500 plus Dark Web services hosted on the platform.
