The hacker obtained these details from online forum discussions where OpenAI employees were discussing their latest AI technologies.

The New York Times reported on 4th July that a hacker had stolen details about OpenAI’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology design last year by accessing OpenAI’s internal messaging systems.

The hacker obtained these details from online forum discussions where OpenAI employees were discussing their latest AI technologies.

“The hacker was not able to get into the OpenAI systems,” the report added. Reuters did not receive an immediate response from the company when asked for a comment.

The company’s board, as well as employees, were informed by executives at OpenAI about this breach at an all-hands meeting in April last year. The news was not shared publicly as the breach had not affected their customers’ or partners’ data.

The San Francisco-based company did not inform the federal law agencies about this breach, as it did not consider it a national security threat, assuming he was an independent individual with no known connections to a foreign government.

“We have disrupted around 5 covert operations aiming to misuse our AI models for malicious activity across the internet,” OpenAI said in May.

In an emerging frontier in its pursuit to safeguard U.S. AI technology from China and Russia, the Biden Administration plans to construct barriers around the most advanced AI models, including ChatGPT.

Authorities are striving to be up to date with the advancing technology and its imminent threats. At a global meeting on May, 16 AI developing companies pledged to safely develop technology to prevent such incidents from recurring.
