A massive cyberattack hits Albanian online public services, forcing it to take its websites offline on Sunday.
According to an announcement from the Albanian National Agency for Information Society (AKSHI), the websites of the Prime Minister's Office and Parliament have both been pulled, as has, critically, the e-Albania portal used by residents and foreigners alike to access public services.
“In order to not allow this attack to damage our information system, the National Agency of Information Society had temporarily shut down online services and other government websites,” it added.
According to AKSHI, the agency has been forced to shut down down the official websites of the government, including the website of the Prime Minister’s Office, the country’s Parliament, and the governmental portal e-Albania, which is utilized by all Albanians and foreign residents for public services.
“The national agency is currently working together with the Microsoft team, the Jones Group International team, and the teams of Albanian companies in the ICT field to prevent this cyber attack from damaging or compromising the Albanian systems of information,” added the statement.
As of May 1, the Albanian government has decided to shut down the majority of civil state offices across the country that provided various services and documents to the citizens, giving this vital role to the governmental online portal e-Albania. (ANI/Xinhua)
