Japanese multinational conglomerate company Panasonic discloses a data breach after unknown threat actors gained access to its internal network.

“Panasonic Corporation has confirmed that its network was illegally accessed by a third party on November 11, 2021," stated the company.

"As the result of an internal investigation, it was determined that some data on a file server had been accessed during the intrusion."

Panasonic spokesperson Dannea DeLisser confirmed that the breach started on June 22 and ended on November 3.

Panasonic has reported the incident to the relevant authorities and implemented measures to avoid accessing its network from external servers.

The company said it is currently working with a specialist third-party organisation to investigate the leak and determine if the breach involved customer’s data or sensitive information related to social infrastructure.

The attack on Panasonic's server is part of a wave of cyberattacks targeting Japanese companies in recent years.

NEC, Kawasaki, Mitsubishi Electric, and defence contractors Kobe Steel and Pasco have also disclosed security incidents and, in some cases, even data leaks.
