A Japan-based company Nichirin Co.has been hit by a ransomware attack, which shut down the subsidiary’s network and production control system.
A US subsidiary of Nichirin makes hoses for automobiles and motorcycles and products for residential use. The company has operations worldwide, with production sites in China and other parts of Asia, North America, and Europe.
The attack occurred on June 14, 2022, and the company moved its operations into manual mode.
“We are investigating what impact this may have on our customers, and we will promptly disclose any necessary information," reported the company.
Customers should expect delays in getting their orders since the cyberattack also affects product distribution, and orders are being fulfilled manually.
The firm’s website also had to be taken down temporarily until experts could determine the extent of the ransomware impact, but now it's back online.
Nichirin warned clients and employees of the possibility of getting emails that impersonate the firm, inferring that the ransomware attack was possible through phishing.
