Regal Medical Group reported a massive data breach exposing the sensitive personal health information of 3.3 million patients.

Regal Medical Group, based in California, states that the ransomware attack took place on December 1, 2022. 

The investigation was done with the help of third-party cybersecurity experts, and it was determined that the malware had infected the organization’s servers, which a threat actor employed to access and exfiltrate data.

The investigation determined that the following data had been compromised:

  • Full name
  • Address
  • Social Security Number (SSN)
  • Date of birth
  • Health plan member number
  • Laboratory test results
  • Medical diagnosis and treatment
  • Prescription data
  • Radiology reports
  • Phone number

Regal's notice holds instructions on enrolling for one year of free credit monitoring via Norton Lovelock for affected individuals.

"Regal understands the importance of safeguarding your personal information and takes that responsibility very seriously," reads the notice.

"We will do all we can to assist any individuals whose personal information may have been compromised and help them work through the process."

They also urged patients to register a fraud alert with various credit bureaus and closely monitor account statements as well as an explanation of benefit forms.
