Shein, a Popular online fashion retailer, has suffered a data breach exposing personal information to 6.42 million customers. The company has confirmed the breach and said they became aware of the breach on August 22, 2018. “On August 22, 2018, SHEIN became aware that certain personally identifiable information of its customers was stolen during a concerted criminal cyberattack on its computer network. “ The exposed information includes personal details of customers, email address and encrypted password credentials of customers who visited the company website. The breach took place between June 2018 and August 2018 impacting around 6.42 million customers. “In addition, SHEIN servers have been scanned, and malware found on the servers has been removed. "Back door" entry points to the servers opened by the attackers have been closed and removed. “ The company has hired a Forensic cybersecurity firm as well as an international law firm to investigate the incident. The company also said they have notified law and enforcement authorities about the breach. They also have started notifying customers about the breach asking them to reset their password. “At SHEIN, we value our customer's safety and security above all else, and for this reason, we are offering one year of identity theft monitoring to affected customers in certain markets. We will remain vigilant as we complete the investigation and implement new safeguards to prevent any future breaches.” said in the notification published by the company.
