A cyber attack was reported on State Bank of Mauritius( SBM) branch located in Mumbai, India and hackers stole around $14 million. The incident occurred on October 2nd on the SBM Nariman Point Branch, Mumbai. According to the complaint registered on October 5th attackers have managed to hack into bank’s servers and access various accounts. The money was transferred to multiple accounts outside India. The company assured that none of its customers will face any losses and is conducting an internal investigation to find more details about the incident. The company said they have notified respective authorities about the breach and they have also started the investigating the incident. “At this stage, we don’t know if it’s a malware attack. The bank’s internal investigation is also on to ascertain whether an insider had helped the fraudsters” said a senior Mumbai police EOW (Economic Offences Wing ) officer to Mumbai Mirror. This is the third bank breach reported in India this year and the second one through Fraudulent SWIFT payments. In February City Union Bank was hacked and stole around $1.8 million. In August Pune based Cosmos bank was hacked, and $13 million was transferred to accounts in India and outside.
