Your Online accounts, including email, social media and accounts with online stores, are secured using passwords. Google Chrome’s Safety Check feature will alert you if your passwords are weak so that you can change them.

How many accounts do you have that require a password? How strong are your passwords?

29% of respondents are not even sure of how many accounts they have required a password; there are simply too many to count.

Web browsers have long offered to help by storing passwords, so we don't have to remember them.

Weak passwords are one of the biggest Security Risks as the attackers can learn which passwords you use through brute force attacks.

As there is a rise in security incidents, website hacks, password leaks, Chrome has taken up steps wherein you will be alerted if your passwords are found in data breaches and other security issues.

Google is now working on a new feature that will automatically detect and learn about weak passwords when performing a Safety check.

Chrome's new Safety check functionality is not yet available in stable channels but can be enabled in Chrome Canary by following these steps

  1. Download and install Chrome Canary.
  2. Enter Chrome://flags in the address bar and press enter.
  3. Search for the 'weak' and enable the "Safety check for weak passwords” and repeat for "Passwords weakness check".
  4. When prompted to restart the browser, please do so.

To check your weak passwords using a safety check, go to Settings > 'Safety Check' > 'Check Now' to perform a safety check of your passwords.

Once clicked, Google will automatically scan the saved passwords and warn about passwords that need your attention. You can click on the "Review" button to make changes to the saved password.
